Job Overview

At our pre-clinical development site in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, we currently recruiting for a Laboratory Technician to join our Cytogenetics laboratory in the Genetic Toxicology department.

As a Laboratory Technician in the cytogenetics laboratory, you will provide assistance in the performing and data recording of any aspects of departmental assays, in compliance with appropriate SOPs and other regulatory guidelines. Duties include routine procedures and housekeeping duties associated with the day to day running of the laboratory areas.

The Cytogenetics lab performs micronucleus and chromosome aberration assays in accordance with OECD and ICH guidelines where appropriate. These assays look at large scale DNA damage caused by a test compound in a variety of test systems, the assays are performed primarily in human blood, but also in immortalised cells lines such as TK6 and CHO. Successful candidates will work within a small team and will be fully trained on all aspects of the Cytogenetics assays, and will also have the opportunity to work with the other assay teams across the department.

* Responsibility to maintain lab cleanliness, supplies and tidiness (cleaning, calibrations, reagent prep and disposal, waste disposal etc.)
* Assists to maintain laboratory equipment, equipment records within laboratory areas
* Assists in the production of laboratory work sheets for standard assays
* Assists in the preparation and performance of standard assay(s) in base lab area
* Assists in the accurate recording and data checking of study and laboratory raw data

About You

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level or equivalent in a biological science subject. Practical laboratory Experience in cell culture and aseptic techniques would be advantageous.

Education / Qualifications

Good general education A'Levels/HNC level with Experience of laboratory work, or a scientific degree (BSc).

Experience

* Up to 12 months practical lab Experience – if new graduate internship/placement Experience or lab practical Experience during degree course preferable
* Excellent attention to detail.
* Ability to accurately read, record, and communicate information.
* Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
* Familiarity with standard spreadsheet and word-processing software applications
* Communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
* Knowledge and understanding of GLP and aseptic techniques would be advantageous.
