Animal Surgical Tech-Surgical Vet Tech

We have a great opportunity for an Animal Surgical Tech –Surgical Vet Tech at our Denver PA lab. Our ideal candidate has a background in performing or assisting in animal surgical procedures, and looking for an opportunity to apply those skills on a variety of animals in a research setting

In this role you will perform duties under the direct supervision of senior staff members including but not limited to;

* Daily monitoring of animal health during intra-operative period.
* Assists in the administration of drugs and anesthetic agents.
* Assists in the induction and maintenance of anesthesia in several animal species.
* Collection of surgery data, including anesthetic records, surgery flow sheets, animal medical records, etc.
* Participates in the required daily set up for each operating room according to client and protocol specifications.
* Prepares surgical packs appropriate to surgical needs.
* Cleans and sterilizes surgical instruments.
* Performs anesthetic machine set up.
* Cleans operating rooms at the end of each day, including disinfecting equipment, surfaces and mopping of floors.
* Provides surgical assistance to veterinary staff.
* Assists in performing treatments as prescribed by the veterinary staff.
* General husbandry including feeding, cleaning & observations of all animals
* Posting requires occasional weekend coverage, Overtime often available
* Mandatory TB tests and serum banking, Ability to stand on concrete floor up to 2 hours at a time
* Ability to work late night and early morning hours when needed

Bachelor degree in Life Sciences, Associate degree in Laboratory Animal Technology or Associate degree in Veterinary Technology. An equivalent combination of education and Experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education, highly prefer candidates with 1+ years of animal surgical Experience .

Must be able to work in a laboratory setting with laboratory animals

AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level is preferred, but not required.


* Two years' Experience in lab animal research or as a Vet Tech.
* At least one year Experience as an operating room technician preferred.
* AALAS certification at the LAT level strongly desired.
* Good computer skills required, including Microsoft Word, Excel, email and Internet.
* Experience with anesthetic management, pre-op and post care required.
* Experience assisting in general surgery procedures, a plus.
* Strong teamwork skills and a diplomatic attitude a plus.
