Job Overview

Covance is looking for a clinical contracts manager or senior associate level contracts specialist.

You would be permanently employed for a minimum of 6 months initially (possibly a fixed term contract) and seconded/outsourced to a top ten pharmaceutical company.

Full Time OR Part Time considered.

The contract may extend longer, to be confirmed.

Location is at the side of the motorway at junction 4 of the M3.

SOME HOMEWORKING CAN BE ACCOMODATED for someone with Experience in contracts management.

Reporting to the Lead Contracts Manager you will be based in a fast paced and dynamic clinical operations group in the UK. The UK affiliate operations group (TMO) is associated with the set up and management of multi therapeutic area clinical trials accross the UK and Ireland (Phase I to IV) including Oncology.

Job Purpose

Works with Lead Contracts Manager to leads the development and execution of clinical trial-related contracts to positively impact site set-up times and trial costs, ensuring compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements.

Major Accountabilities

Acts as advisor to the TMO for setting up and maintaining trial agreements with NHS Trusts, GPs, SMOs, CROs and other vendors of clinical trial services.

Provides benchmarking data and support to TMO team in negotiating costs for trial-related contracts and advises clinical trial teams on site budget agreements and costing templates

Works with Line Manager to set up and maintain standardized contract templates, approved by the UK Legal Department, for trial-related activities.

Acts as main point of contact with UK Legal Department for contract approvals and advice during Line Manager absence.

Sets up and maintains contracts for supply of contract clinical research personnel; tracks rates.

Co-ordinates Confidentiality Agreements and Clinical Trial Insurance documentation.

Ensures compliance with quality standards and UK regulatory requirements with regard to clinical trial contracts.

Acts as authorized signatory for TMO escalates approvals according to authority limits policy.

Contributes to external, industry and NHS initiatives relating to clinical trial contracts and costings.

Responsible for implementing process for and ensuring compliance with contracts document management

External impact: On NHS Trusts as a fair and credible negotiator; on industry and healthcare working groups to influence contract development and costing guidelines in favour of the industry but with a reasonable understanding of NHS bodies' needs.

Internal Impact: Avoiding obstacles to trial set-up thorugh efficient resolution of contract and costing issues. Helping to control TMO spend, improving metrics and protecting the UK's share of global trials. Ensuring regulatory compliance around vendors, contracts and insurance arrangements.

Education / Qualifications

Ideal Background

Life Science Degree or equivalent.


Experience :

At least 5 years' Experience in clinical research with in-depth exposure to contract development and budget management. Evidence of strong negotiation skills and a good understanding of the clinical research environment in the UK.
