Job Overview

As a software architect, you will be responsible for providing the technical leadership for software solutions managing Covance's core business functions. You will work collaboratively with local and remote engineering teams, ensuring high quality and forward thinking engineering practices are applied.

The ideal candidate will be a strong full stack architect, capable of reasoning about complex environments and making informed strategic decisions. The candidate must be able to work closely with other engineers to build solution consensus. The candidate will be afforded to work in a fast-paced environment and have a significant influence in design decisions. The candidate must be able to learn new technologies and techniques readily and provide leadership in adopting them. The candidate is expected to be contributing production code at least 40% of the time.

Responsibilities

* Drive the architecture and design of the system, matching functional and non-functional goals
* Provide technical leadership to the development team(s)
* Participate in the full development cycle from system inception through release
* Establish and guide development patterns and practices to ensure consistent and reliable delivery
* Work with the user community to understand system requirements and identify solutions
* Ensure that safety and security are built into the system design
* Partner with peer architects to identify opportunities of reuse and common patterns
* Understand and comply with all development regulations and audit obligations
* Maintain an understanding of current industry trends and leverage to drive positive change

Education/Qualifications

BS/MS in computer science, information systems, life sciences, or similar.

Experience

* A passion for building high quality software at speed
* Minimum of 4 years' Experience in software development
* Thorough understanding of application development and support technologies, and how they interact with underlying platforms and infrastructure. Experience across more than one “technology stack” for applications (e.g. Microsoft, Java, Javascript, mainframe, Unix, etc.)
* Good knowledge of industry best practices and trends in the application integration and development spaces
* Excellent organization and communication skills
* Experience applying Test Driven Development
* Experience with Cucumber, Selenium and related test frameworks
* Expertise in concurrent programming (multi-threaded and distributed)
* Expertise in Event Driven Design patterns
* Thrives working in an agile environment

Preferred

* Experience with healthcare standards (HL7/FHIR, BRIDG, …)
* Experience in pharmaceutical R&D, clinical development and/or healthcare IT
* Experience working in a regulated environment
* Experience with Domain Driven Design
* Expertise with the Spring suite of technologies
* Expertise with Java/JEE
* Experience with Angular w/ TypeScript
