Job Overview

Covance is currently seeking a Sample Handling Assistant I in Los Angeles, CA.

1. Receives and opens incoming packages – may contain dry ice. Inspects contents and documents any discrepancies, problems with samples or packages which are in non-compliance with IATA regulations. Reports any problems to the appropriate staff.
2. Accessions and distributes specimens to the appropriate laboratory or storage location.
3. Stores ambient, refrigerated and frozen samples for future testing in ambient storage areas, refrigerators, or -20°C, -80°C or -140°C freezers and keeps detailed charts for retrieval of samples at a later date.
4. Maintains all airbills from packages which come in via Federal Express, World Courier, Marken or other couriers.
5. Researches specimen inquiries from sample sponsor.
6. Ships samples to other facilities for testing or retrieval (may include international locations). Has full knowledge of IATA regulations for these shipments.
7. Handles special projects as assigned by manager/supervisor.
8. Performs duties as required to meet the needs of the department and company


High school graduate or equivalent
